Dear Parents / Guardian,
Some children in our school have developed Conjunctivitis, better known as pink eye.
Conjunctivitis means that the "whites" of the eyes have become red due to an irritation.
What causes Conjunctivitis?
Chemicals, allergies or direct contact from discharge from the eyes of infected persons. Discharge from the eye(s) on fingers, towels, washcloths and handkerchiefs may spread the infection.
Is Conjunctivitis contagious?
Yes, if it is caused by certain viral and bacterial organisms.
What are some symptoms of infectious Conjunctivitis?
1. Itching, irritation and scratchy feeling in one or both eyes.
2. A discharge which may cause the eyelids to stick together in the morning.
How can Conjunctivitis be prevented?
By excluding infected children from school during the active Stage of infection, and by thorough hand washing at all time. Children may return to school 24 hours after the start of antibiotic treatment.
What do I do if my child is sent home, or I think my child has Conjunctivitis?
Call, or see your physician for diagnosis and treatment.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the school. Our number is 586-6660.
